The Minister of Energy Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza inaugurated the second phase of Bahrain’s Gas Compressors stationed near Jebel Dukkhan on Thursday in the presence of executive directors of Bahrain Petroleum Development Company as well as a number of invitees from the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA).
The contractor has successfully completed the second phase of the project today. The first phase was completed in April 2011. The terminal’s capacity is in the range of 65 million cubic feet of gas per day capable of responding to expected increase in quantity of gas yield from new wells in Bahrain Field as a result of boosting oil production.
The field comprises six opposite compressors, four with low gas pressure and two with high gas pressure with gas dehydration unit. The project includes 17 kilometres of new pipelines. Gas extractable from crude oil is pooled through the pipeline and relayed to the compressors to be prepared for various other usages such as automatic pumping of petroleum, or re-injected in underground reservoirs in order to preserve gas or mixed with other components for the various industrial usages. This type of opposite compressors is used in Bahrain’s field for the first time in view of the potential flexibility it provides for oil and gas production operations. The new unit is highly automated and operates with remote control systems and optimally useful for constant security operation. The project cost $95 million and scored more than 1,000,000 hours of safe operation free from any time wasting incident. The station enables the Petroleum Development Corporation to maintain the anticipated increase in associated gas production and paves the way for boosting oil production in future from Bahrain Field and contributes into the Kingdom of Bahrain’s prosperity in line with Bahrain’s Vision 2030 for the sake of long-term supporting of economic development plans.
Dr. Mirza expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the wise political leadership for their great support to the oil sector in Bahrain and thanked the Petroleum Development Corporation’s management and staff for this important development in our beloved Kingdom.
