The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior Brigadier Tariq Hassan Al Hassan has announced that the Ministry of Interior is in the final stages of signing a contract with John Timoney, an international security and police expert. He was short-listed from a number of super-cops with extensive and proven expertise.
In his last appointment, Timoney was Chief of the Miami Police for seven years, where among his many accomplishments were the successful reduction of crime and the implementation of proper practices for the use of force. Furthermore, Chief Timoney had a key role in the establishment of the police Academy in Miami. He is expected to report directly to the Minister of Interior.
Brigadier Al Hassan highlighted that the Ministry will secure the full-time expertise and assistance of a number of prominent and specialist police and security experts from the United States and United Kingdom. This is part of the procedural reforms and steps adopted by the Ministry to enhance and improve the work of Bahrain’s police.
Prior to assuming responsibilities in Miami, Timoney was the First Assistant Commissioner of the New York City Police and Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department. He also has extensive experience relating to providing monitoring and other services for a number of national and international firms, focusing on training and employment programmes, as well as the reorganization of security establishments.
Chief Timoney’s important research in the field of security has made significant contribution to the field for those interested in security operations development and modernization. He has received many awards and medals in appreciation of his work.
