Bapco signed a new five-year participant membership agreement with Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) UK, joining an elite group of worldwide oil companies and providing Bapco with enhanced capabilities in the handling of Tier-2 and Tier-3 oil spill incidents.
The area of coverage involved extends to the whole of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its territorial waters. At the signing ceremony attended by Bapco’s senior management, Environmental Affairs Advisor and Maintenance Division key staff, Oil Spill Response Chief Executive, Archibald Smith commented that since the Transocean Oil Spill in 2010, the international community was still feeling the effects of the spill and because of this, there had been extended interest from many Oil Companies in upgrading or joining Oil Spill Response Ltd. taking the initiative and opportunity as ordinary or associate Member.
“Bapco in taking the initiative and opportunity that they had wisely upgraded their status in Oil Spill Response which showed their dedication in preserving the environment by boosting their existing membership,” he added.
He further explained that with Bapco now being a participant member and shareholder of this elite group made up of all the international oil company major players like Bapco were ensured of the very best bench marking, best practices and cutting edge technology available today and into the future in the oil spill business in order to guarantee Bapco’s success as an environmental champion for the greater good of the Kingdom of Bahrain and it’s neighbors.
Bapco’s Deputy Chief Executive Refining and Marketing, Gordon Smith said on behalf of the Chief Executive, Faisal Al-Mahroos that the company is extremely proud of this enhancement to its capabilities in handling of oil spills and envisaged that OSRL would play a leading role in BAPCO’s future projects by advising and sharing best practices with “BAPCO” which could be implemented on all future environmental related projects.
