The Supreme Council for Women is celebrating its 10th Anniversary and Bahraini Women’s Day on December 7th and 8th, highlighting the achievements of Bahraini women, Ezzaldin Al-Moayyed, General Director of Administrative Policies and Media at the Supreme Council for Women, said.
“The theme for this year’s Bahraini Women’s Day focuses on Bahraini woman in economic development as effective partners dedicated to contributing to the national economy,” Al-Moayyed told media reps during a press conference.
This year’s celebrations, said Shaikha Azza Abdulrahman Al-Khalifa, Director General of Women Empowerment Programmes, coincides with a decade of the council’s achievements, and on the occasion of the Bahraini Women’s Day, the Supreme Council for Women translates its theme into an “Entrepreneurs Gallery” where 45 young female entrepreneurs will be present to showcase their accomplishments in an event Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women.
Explaining the highlights of the celebrations, Shaikha Azza said that on both days of the exhibition, visitors would be able to encounter first hand notable Bahraini women entrepreneurs sharing their experiences and their success stories.
To acknowledge the role of women in economy and business further, on the morning of December 8 the Council would organize a forum discussing the participation of women in the private sector as well as their role as entrepreneurs.
The Director General stated that the challenges they encountered in setting up their ventures would be discussed as well as ways on how to overcome them.
On the occasion of the 10th year anniversary Shaikha Azza highlighted the work of the council which revolved around the National Strategy for the advancement of Bahraini women that focuses on seven areas of empowering Bahraini women they include economic empowerment, political empowerment, family stability, health, education, civil society and environment.
Of these, she added, the first three formed the core focus.
The political empowerment of women, Shaikha Azza said, is a continuous programme carried by the council with the aim of increasing the number of women in decision making positions such as parliament.
“The council has launched several economic projects aiming at training Bahraini women and empowering them economically,” Shaikha Azza, added.
The General Director also emphasized that mainstreaming women’s needs is currently a main priority of our work.
SCW aims at implementing the National Model for mainstreaming women’s needs in development in co-operation with its main strategic partners.
And so far the council has succeeded in establishing 10 equal opportunities units in the governmental institutions.
