Bahrain reaffirmed keenness to translate the recommendations cited in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) Report on the ground. The National Commission charged with the BICI recommendations reiterated the stance during a meeting a senior US Congress officials.
The panel said that the recommendations would be implemented in line with best international practices and standards, the constitution and human rights principles.
It cited particularly the recommendations relating to the reinstatement of the sacked public and private employees who have not been indicted in criminal acts of violence.
It singled out the BICI recommendations relating to the reconstruction of worship facilities.
The Government is following up the issue with National Commission president Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh to ensure their implementation.
The panel has so far received a positive response. National Commission members Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, Abdulla Al-Dirazi, Abdulaziz Abul, Ahmed Al-Saati, Jameela Salman and secretary general Obaid Al-Obaidli attended, in addition to employees from the Bahrain Embassy in the US.
The commission outlined the work mechanism, updating the US Congress delegation on the establishment of work teams charged with legal issues, human rights and national reconciliation. It said that His Majesty the King, the Government and Bahrain people have approved the recommendations, including the opposition itself. It also pointed out that it was hoping the opposition would take part in its world to achieve national interests and ensure stability.
The National Commission members hailed growing bilateral cooperation, welcoming the delegation’s visit which reflects historic friendship.
They appreciate the US support and assistance to the Kingdom of Bahrain at this stage, being a strategy ally in the region.
They also express categorical rejection of the use of violence from any party, reiterating commitment to human rights. The US Congress delegation said their country was forward to bolstering relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain in the foreseeable future.
They describe the events in Bahrain as being different from other countries which witnessed upheavals.
“The US regards the situation in Bahrain as being a special case”, they said, describing the visit as positive step to get updated on the reality in Bahrain.
They also voiced their optimism regarding the procedures undertaken to implement the BICI recommendations, urging the opposition to take the initiative and participate in the reform procedures underway.
