His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s personal intervention last night helped the ‘One Million Copies of the Holy Quran-Bahrain’s Gift to Africa’ campaign to reach the two million mark.
Earlier, 1,637,741 copies of the Quran had been donated during the campaign.
The King’s gesture contributed the rest. He thanked citizens and residents for their contribution to the humanitarian drive.
The initiative was launched by the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) through a live telethon broadcast on Bahrain TV.
Citizens, residents and establishments from Bahrain and abroad donated through bank account numbers displayed during the telethon. Donations were also received at the IAA premises, Seef Mall, Bahrain City Centre, Al Waha Mall in Muharraq and the LuLu Hypermarket in Riffa.
People also made donations using their telephones, credit cards and by SMS.
The humanitarian campaign, aiming to send a million copies of the Quran to Africa, continued until midnight.
