Bahrain’s National Oil Company, Bapco, has achieved milestones in safety during 2011, and was able to make excellent safety contributions throughout last year, thanks to the dedication of its employees and contractors.
On 2 April of last year, Bapco achieved one million employee hours without lost time injury LTI. On 11 April 2011, the company successfully completed one million employee hours combined without lost time injury. Bapco was able to make another key milestone in safety by completing three million employee hours combined without lost time injury on 20 May 2011.
Bapco celebrated another key safety achievement on 28 July of last year by achieving one million employee hours combined without lost time injury. On 30 June 2011, Bapco achieved nine million hours at the Lube Base Oil Plant BLOP project, which was officially opened in November 2011.
“LBOP latest achievement of 10 Million Employee Hours without LTI on 31 December 2011 is an excellent conclusion of safety milestones for Bapco in 2011,” Ahmed Khalil, Manager Fire, Health and Safety Department, said.
Despite the many construction and commissioning hazardous activities and involvement of large number of employees, Bapco LBOP team and Contractors jointly managed to finish the project without a single LTI. This is a remarkable achievement and one that we must all be proud of,” Khalil, added.
During the period of 16 February till 12 April 2011, Bapco carried out its major HUB T&I, the largest maintenance program in its history, which lasted for 56 days.
The company was able to achieve one million employee and contractor hours without lost time injury or non-lost time injury, with zero recordable fires.
The Refining Division of Bapco made a unique safety performance in 2011. The division did not record a single lost time injury throughout last year. The Oil Storage and Export Department won the first position in achieving an excellent safety performance in 2011 with no lost time injury last year.
“We take pride in Bapco’s unique safety milestones in 2011. This reflects Bapco’s compliance with safety standards at workplaces, and the awareness of our employees and contractors about the principles of safety in each unit of Bapco, the matter which contributed to achieving these outstanding milestones,” Bapco’s Chief Executive Gordon Smith, said.
Smith congratulated the employees of Bapco and the staff of the Refining Division in general and the employees of the Oil Storage and Export Department in particular for these safety achievements.
Smith expressed hope to continue such safety achievements in 2012 and coming years to pursue the march of success and progress in Bapco.
