Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) is readying for the opening of King Hamad University Hospital in Muharraq.
The hospital is due to open early next month under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the BDF Supreme Commander.
Management of the hospital will be by the BDF Royal Medical Services staff, under the chairmanship of BDF commander-in-chief Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
The hospital will be under the direct supervision of State Minister for Defence Affairs Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
It is considered as an exemplary state-of-the-art medical and educational edifice built to serve citizens. It features an emergency room, a center for transplant.
The hospital is also outfitted with advanced medical equipment for endoscopic surgery that is only found in a few hospitals around the world.
Some medical equipment of the new hospital is used for the first time in Bahrain, and all are related to the expertise of the BDF hospital.
King Hamad University hospital will be a training center for health and medical staff and will cater to the growing demand for health services, especially with three medical colleges and a number of health professions colleges that need practical training.
The hospital also features services of academic research and research of the health care and medical field in Bahrain.
The hospital, built on a surface of 64000 square meters, includes three main buildings of four storeys, interconnected by 2 passages. It features 312 beds, 11 operation theatres, a number of internal suites and an ICU with 21 beds. It also includes an emergency room containing 20 beds, besides two suits for infants, an ob/gyn department, an ophthalmology department, a Physiotherapy and hydrotherapy unit, and external clinics and services.
The hospital is special for featuring a helipad on the east side of the main buildings, to transfer emergency cases. There will also be a car park on the west side with a capacity of 950 cars.
The hospital features all learning facilities for the service of Bahrain’s medical university, such as an auditorium with a capacity of 250 persons and will be serving as a lecture hall and a convention center for local, regional and international conferences.
