The Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE) announced the opening of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) largest shopping extravaganza Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 2012. The 17th edition of the globally acclaimed festival runs for 32 days until February 5, 2012.
According to results of a market research study commissioned by DEPE and conducted by the leading global research firm YouGov during DSF 2011, the boost to Dubai’s economy from retail, travel and hospitality spend during the 2011 edition of the festival totalled AED15.1bn – including Dh5.9billion spent by regional and international visitors, Dh6.6billion spent by residents of other emirates and more than Dh2.5billion spent by Dubai residents. Throughout the month-long festival in 2011, around 3.9 million people participated in DSF-related activities and events.
Promoted under the tagline “Dubai at its Best” DSF 2012 will showcase the best shopping, best entertainment and best winning opportunities in the city. The spectacular opening ceremony will feature a synchronized musical fireworks display taking place on both sides of Dubai Creek in tandem with street entertainment all across the city. Visitors can look forward to an exciting calendar of events and activities that promise a more rewarding shopping experience with unbeatable sales, discounts, street markets and night souks; the opportunity to win big with daily gold, car and cash raffles; and numerous family entertainment events, live shows and roaming performers.
“As we prepare for the opening of the 2012 Dubai Shopping Festival, the research proves that DSF is a major – and growing – contributor to Dubai’s economy, and plays a vital part in boosting shopping and tourism revenue for the Emirate. The notable success of 2011’s event speaks to the significance of the festival, and to the value it holds not just for Dubai’s community, but to people across the world,” Laila Suhail, CEO of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, said.
“Dubai has a great deal to offer local, regional and international visitors, and we work hard to provide entertaining and worthwhile experiences for our tourists – during the Dubai Shopping Festival and throughout the year,” she added.
