Protestors Public Security Chief Major-General Taraq Al-Hassan confirmed that the security forces took legal action to prevent a rally called upon by Al Wefaq society in the name of several political societies in the centre of Manama located between Ras Ruman Mosque to Bab Al Bahrain that includes lively commercial and government establishments that provide services for citizens and residents.
Moreover, in the same area several foreign embassies are located highlighting that the prevention of this rally was aimed at preserving the safety and interests of citizens and residents.
The ministry of interior expresses its apologies to citizens and residents on any delays or disruption in traffic flow due to this illegal rally. Maj. Gen Al Hassan indicated that the security personnel utilized maximum self-control in managing the situation and contacted the rally’s organisers to disperse the crowds especially that it was announced that taking part in this rally was illegal.
He also emphasized that the gathering of the crowds did in fact cause traffic congestions, threatened security and affected the interests of citizens and residents.
Due to this the order was given to prohibit this rally on legal basis within the law of public gatherings. Public Security Chief held responsible all those who called upon this gathering despite their knowledge of it being illegal and that had been spearheaded without consideration for the interests of citizens and residents. At the conclusion of his statement Major General Al Hassan emphasized that the organizing of public gatherings and freedom of expression was a right preserved by the constitution and law without the disruption to security and going out of the framework of regulation or affecting public interests and should follow the law.
