Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) officially launched the Al Majaz Waterfront, one of the region’s largest of its kind tourism project. The project opened to large crowds of visitors and tourists in the emirate of Sharjah.
Al Majaz Waterfront, Shurooq’s debut project, is situated on the picturesque Khalid Lagoon, between Jamal Abdul Nasser Street and the Khalid Lagoon Corniche, a highly populated area in the emirate of Sharjah. This latest tourist attraction is expected to pull a large number of the city’s residents, visitors and tourists.
Shurooq had begun work on the construction of this project in mid-2010 with the aim of developing a leisure and tourism destination of choice benchmarked with the highest standards. The endeavour has come into existence in cooperation with various government departments and institutions as well as leading international firms. The project which is valued at Dh 100 million is spread over an area of 231000 square feet.
The Al Majaz Waterfront project includes musical fountains, 8 restaurants and cafes, jogging areas, cycling routes, distinguished mosque, art and sculpture park, splash park, 1000 parking spaces, covered areas for entertainment and cultural activities, open and covered areas for children, mini golf court, kiosks for snacks and soft drinks, walking areas and green spaces, amenities and public utilities.
A range of entertaining shows have been planned as part of the celebrations and are expected to begin on Thursday 29, 2011 and run until Sunday, January 1, 2012. Four shows will be performed daily from 4:00 pm. An official opening ceremony will be organized to formally inaugurate the project on a date that will be announced later.

For Shurooq, it is our dream debut project with which we hope to add yet another shining star to the horizons of the Emirate of Sharjah,” Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), said.
“The project is the fruit of the directives and support of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and it has been keenly followed up by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority. We have planned a series of future projects which will further enhance the emirate’s position on the world tourism map.”
Al Sarkal said that opening Al Majaz Waterfront at this time of the year will offer the opportunity to visitors to enjoy the amenities which are ready to host visitors during a time of increasing tourist inflow. He added that a number of facilities will be all set and ready to receive visitors in the initial days of launching the attraction. These would include the play area for children, the Splash Park, mini-golf court, family walk areas, jogging areas and activities area which will see a number of entertaining shows, on the occasion of the opening, until next Sunday.
He said that allowing visitors to enjoy the project’s facilities before the official opening will help attract more visitors and tourists to the ceremony and make the opening a very special event for all.
Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal highly appreciated the efforts made by various concerned official departments and government authorities for the provision of all means of support to achieve this project on the scheduled time.
The Sharjah Musical Fountain will be operated on the official opening day. The 100 meters high and 220 meters wide fountain is considered as one the largest of its kind in the region. It comprises of two large water displays as well as sound, light and laser techniques.
Shurooq was established in 2009 with the aim of achieving social, cultural, environmental and economic development on the basis of Sharjah’s distinct Arab and Islamic identity.
