The Kingdom of Bahrain one of the nine teams which took part in the Sailing Arabia-The Tour 2011 (SATT 2012) finished in an overall 7th position, a good performance by the inexperienced and young members of the team.
The SATT 2012 represented six nations, have visited four countries on the tour, starting in Bahrain on February 13 before heading to Qatar, the UAE and Oman.
“Team Bahrain has participated in SATT for the first time this year and offshore racing is very new to us and we have learnt a great deal. The first leg was very windy and very long, the last leg was much shorter and we had very light winds so lots of different experiences,” Bahraini team’s Bahrain skipper Sheikh Mohammed said.
“Inshallah we hope to participate again. We are very keen to have an all Bahraini team, we need to get a lot more experience and practice over the next year,” Shaikh Mohammed said.
“The tour is very important especially for promoting the sport of sailing in the region. Sailing has been slowly growing over the last few decades and thanks to Oman sail local interest is picking up, and hopefully we will see more and more people coming to the sport of sailing.”
