Bapco is upbeat on completing the $8 billion refinery modernisation project by the year 2017-18, a top official at the country’s Energy Company Bapco revealed.
Gordon Smith, Bapco CEO, in an interview told the 24X7 News Bahrain said the move would make Bapco, what he called Energy Company instead of Oil Company, as compatible with the future needs and demand of as well as environment friendly fuel.
Talking about switching over to wind, solar and other means of alternative and clean energy resources, Smith said that the some of Awali would be running on wind and solar energy by 2014.
“Bapco being an energy company remains committed to explore all possibilities of alternative energy resources,” Smith said, adding that he was wondering why other companies were not keen on seeking green energy solutions.
“We realize the importance of the Bapco refinery to the national economy, and we will continue to strive for excellence in meeting our targets and maximizing revenues to the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of the Minister of Energy, Chairman of National Oil and Gas Authority, and Chairman of Bapco’s Board of Directors, Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza”, Smith added.
