The Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Khalifa participated in the International Friends of Syria Conference in Tunis.
The meeting comes within the framework of Arab and international efforts to solve the Syrian crisis.
This in addition to a framework Plan set by Arab countries to bring peace and stability to Syria, one that maintains its unity, sovereignty, meeting its people aspirations as well as providing urgent humanitarian aid to the people of Syria. Bahrain’s participation in the meeting comes as part of the Kingdom, Arab and International commitment and its stance with the international community for the purpose of coming up with a solution to Syria’s crisis.
Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki opened the conference calling upon the international community to take the necessary measures to stop the escalation of crisis in Syria.
Foreign Ministers from sixty countries are participating in the meeting as well as a number of regional and International organizations including the UN, the Arab League and the GCC.
A communiqué was issued during the meeting asserting on adhering to Syria’s sovereignty and unity and endorsing the Arab Initiative aimed at facilitating a political transition to a democratic regime involving all parties through political dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition.
The communiqué also voiced concern with regard to the deterioration of the humanitarian situation, calling for the formation of work teams in order the meet the humanitarian needs of Syrians people.
