The board and executive management at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) thanked Professor Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni for his support of the 2012 Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
Professor Bassiouni, Chairman of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI), sent a letter dated February 19, 2012, to Zayed Rashid Al Zayani, Chairman of the Board at BIC, in which he expressed his full backing for the race weekend scheduled to take place this April.
Professor Bassiouni described the Bahrain Grand Prix as “a significant national event”, one that is of “deserved national pride”.
Professor Bassiouni further lauded BIC’s decision to hold the race weekend under the slogan, ‘UNIF1ED – One Nation in Celebration’.
“This is an important initiative, which gives another opportunity for the People of Bahrain to come together.”
Professor Bassiouni’s letter follows the official launch of the Bahrain Grand Prix early this week at BIC. Copies of his message were also sent to Bernie Ecclestone, President and Chief Executive Officer of Formula One Management, and Jean Todt, President of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile.
The 2012 Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will be held from April 20 to 22 at BIC, ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’, in Sakhir. It will mark the Kingdom’s eighth hosting of the prestigious Formula One event, and it will feature plenty of top-class action being the fourth round of a record-breaking 20-race calendar that makes up the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship.
The Bahrain Grand Prix will also showcase three top international support series, as well as a wide array of unique exhibitions and plenty of family entertainment by artists and performers coming from all over the world.
