Traders and businessmen in Bahrain denounced persistence of some groups to target the Kingdom’s economic lifeline by staging unlicensed sit-ins and rallies in vital areas and trade locations in the capital.
They said they will submit a protest letter to Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa in this regard.
They also called on the Interior Ministry to ensure any licensed rally take place outside the commercial area due to its grave repercussions on traders and their businesses.
They condemned attempts of some people to jeopardize traders’ livelihood through escalation which threatens the national economy and affects social cohesion, civic peace and social security.
They demanded the Interior Ministry and the security bodies to assume their responsibilities in maintaining security and protecting people’s interests.
Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) warned, earlier, against some people’s exploitation of the high cap of freedoms they enjoy to undermine security by blocking roads and committing acts of sabotage.
The chamber called on the government to assume its duties in maintaining security and stability and handle decisively illegal practices.
It said Instigative calls, which have spread largely via social networking media, are a blatant attempt to drive the nation into sectarianism which will have grave repercussions on civic peace, national security and stability and the kingdom’s economy.
BCCI urged all people to embrace responsible stances that take into consideration the national interest and economy.
