In response to the demand of potential participants and in a bid to allow an opportunity for the maximum number of applications, the registration deadline of the eGovernment Excellence Award 2012 has been extended to 20th February 2012. The award, in its fifth year, is organized under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT).
Commenting on this regard, eGA Marketing and Awareness Directorate Assistant Director Mohammad Ziad Asfour attributed the reasons behind the registration extension period to the demand of participants and to allow a greater opportunity for applicants to share their unique projects, particularly that the committee is still receiving further applications.
In regards to the following stages, he pointed out that members of the independent jury comprises of a ICT professionals and experts who come from international countries , the GCC and Bahrain private sector and further details on the jury process will be announced at a later stage. The jury will review each work independently, ensure its effectiveness and applicability in line with the international standards as the objective of the award is to raise the quality and efficiency of government services offered to Bahrain’s citizens and residents.
Asfour urged all citizens and employees of the public and private sectors along with NGOs to take this opportunity and register before the new deadline commences on the 20th, February.
It is worth mentioning that eGovernment Excellence Award has gained a reputation with an increasing significance – being an ideal platform for innovators to extend their eProducts and eServices and lay-down basic foundations for a technological society. The winning eProjects will qualify to compete in the GCC eGovernment Excellence Award and represent the Kingdom in this field.
Winners will be honoured on the opening ceremony of Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2012, which will be organized for the fifth time in a row on 9th April 2012. The event will be attended by several international speakers from the United Nations, Europe, Arab and GCC countries, international organizations and recognized companies.
The award consists of eleven awards, divided into three categories: Government Category, Multi-Sector Category, and the Citizens Category.
The Government category consists of six awards (Best eContent, Best eService, Best eMaturity, Best eProject, eEconomy and eEducation Award); the Multi-sector category contains four awards (Best ICT Solutions Provider, eEconomy, eEducation and eNGO), and finally the Citizens category consists of eCitizen and Best eConcept award.
