The rapid adoption of mobile devices, various enterprise applications and social media has largely contributed to the unprecedented growth rate of enterprise data, both structured and unstructured, according to a recent study by International Data Corporation (IDC), the premier global market intelligence and advisory firm for the information technology and telecommunications markets.
Unstructured data, in particular, has been growing exponentially, requiring more specialised data management tools and transform it into actionable information. The impact of such “big data” in transforming businesses will be one of the key topics that will be discussed during the exclusive two-day Middle East CIO Summit 2012, which will be held at the Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort, Fujairah, UAE, starting on February 20.
The Summit, which will gather more than 150 of the region’s most influential ICT users, will provide insights on how IT managers can effectively grapple with the implications of big data. There will also be high-level discussions focusing on the challenges of managing various data types and sources and how to effectively harness the full potential of big data in driving business.
“We now live in a data-intensive society as access to various types of information is increasingly becoming important to the day-to-day affairs of enterprises and individuals. The growth rate of enterprise data has accordingly reached unprecedented levels, creating a much greater demand for more sophisticated and specialised tools for data management and analytics technologies that generate insight from the data. The Middle East CIO Summit 2012 will therefore gather the region’s most prominent IT personalities and leading technology innovators, providing a dedicated networking platform to discuss the issues related to Big Data and opportunities to leverage Big Data technologies to gain competitive advantage in the region,” Jyoti Lalchandani, vice president and managing director of IDC Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, said.
“IDC’s Middle East CIO Summit is an important networking event that gives us an opportunity to share ideas and examine in greater detail the latest trends in the region’s IT landscape. EMC, for its part, is looking forward to discuss with the CIOs from the region, key insights about the challenges of Big Data, effective ways for managing various data types and sources and the competitive value hidden in Big Data and how to effectively harness it to transform the business,” Mohammed Amin, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager, EMC Turkey, Emerging Africa and Middle East Region, said.
The Middle East CIO Summit 2012 will explore the ways CIOs in the region are using technology and emerging service delivery models to build efficiencies into their IT organizations and the business as a whole. IDC will share its latest market findings from discussions with leading CIO’s from across the Middle East during the session titled “Driving the CIO Agenda for Business Success”.
IDC’s Steven Frantzen, Senior VP, Research, (EMEA Region), MD (CEMA Region), and Jyoti Lalchandani will lead the session, which will detail how the economic outlook, new technologies, and shifting enterprise strategies are reshaping IT buying decisions.
