Commander of the US 5th fleet Admiral Mark Fox said that Iran has been enforcing its naval forces in the Gulf and has prepared ships that can be used in suicidal attacks, but the American Forces is capable of preventing Iran from closing Strait of Hurmoz.
Admiral Fox in a statement published by the Bahrain News Agency said that the Iranians have increased the number of submarines and attack ships and have provided number of small ships with warheads that could be used as suicidal explosive ships, he added that the Iranians have a huge stock of marine mines in addition to ten small submarines, but the US Administration has followed with interest the development of the Iranian short, medium and long range ballistic missiles as well as the development of its nuclear programme.
The Admiral said that the American Navy is vigilant and has submitted a number of choices to the US President but diplomacy must be given a top priority in solving these tensions.
Fox said that the communications between the US Navy ships and the Iranian’s is normal in the Gulf, referring to cases when US Navy assisted Iranian ships in cases when they are technically troubled or threatened by pirates.
