Commander of the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) Brigadier Doctor Shaikh Salman bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa said though the BDF was charged to run the KHUH it would remain a civilian hospital.
In a statement posted by the Bahrain News Agency he said that assigning the responsibility to the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) to run the KHUH was a living proof of BDF’s discipline and expertise needed to run the new entity.
The BDF has, within no more than a year, been able to supervise the hospital’s design and provide it with the latest medical equipment, praising the efforts of the State Minister for Defence Affairs Lieutenant General Doctor Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and his constant support, which, he said, has helped overcoming all obstacles and enabling BDF to prepare such a state-of-the-art hospital in a record time.
He also affirmed that the wise leadership has always issued directives to make the KHUH a medical and educational monument, affiliated with the Bahrain Medical College, adding that a 120-bed cancer and a scientific research centres, adjacent to KHUH will be established soon in order to provide quality services for citizens and residents.
He also explained that KHUH is not a military hospital but a civil one, with a capacity of 311 beds, and will, after the opening of the Emergency Department, will reduce pressure on the Salmaniya Medical Complex, asserting that according to the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, the KHUH will serve Muharraq Governorate’s citizens and residents only, and will be followed by similar ones in the Southern Governorate and the rest of governorates.
He also asserted that the electronic file, including the health records of patients, will be introduced for the first time in the kingdom, and will save the patients’ money and doctors’ efforts and help them take the right decisions.
He also indicated that the KHUH, with its highly qualified staff, will provide quality services, calling upon citizens to protect this landmark medical facility for the interests of the Kingdom.
