Bahrain’s Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq al Hassan said that public security has been using utmost restraint despite heighten attacks on the on duty officers including Molotov attacks.
He said that groups of thugs hurled a large quantity of Molotov cocktails at two on-duty police patrols on Saturday morning on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman road.
The Chief said the attackers endanger the safety of the policemen and damaged a police vehicle with a Molotov cocktail. One of the policemen was injured when he tried to put out the fire and was referred to hospital for treatment.
The two police patrols were deployed near the Abu Quwa area due to reports of vandals blocking the road and attacking passersby.
The Public Security head said the policemen showed the highest level of restraint in dealing with the attackers. At one point, he added, some attackers got very close to a police officer and it would have been legal for the officer to fight back in self-defense. However, the commander decided to avoid escalation and dispersed the crowd by using tear gas and rubber bullets.
General Al Hassan said that an investigation to identify the attackers was ordered. The Chief called upon families and parents to care for their children and to protect them from listening to instigators, who are encouraging them to break the law, possibly get injured and damage their future.
