Second Deputy Chairwoman of the Shura Council and head of the parliamentary delegation taking part in the Crans Montana Forum, currently Head here, Dr. Bahiya Jawad Al Jishi highlighted the importance of enhancing parliamentary coordination between at international gatherings and conferences so as to serve Arab and global issues and develop cooperation between parliaments and MPs.
Al Jishi added that parliamentary friendship committees play a major role in activating joint programmes, boost economic and investment projects and address women’s issues.
This came as the parliamentary delegation to Crans Forum, including Shura Member Hala Ramzi and members of the Representatives Council Sawsan Taqawi, Sumaya Al Jowdar and Ibtissem Hejres, met with the Speaker of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives.
During the meeting, the Belgium official expressed the Belgian Chamber of Representatives’ keen interest to bolster parliamentary cooperation with Bahrain, praised the pioneering Reform Project, the Kingdom’s democratic march, political openness, developed economy and the equal opportunities principle provided for the Bahraini women.
The delegation also held a meeting with the Belgian Senate’s President Sabine de Bethune.
Ways of consolidating cooperation between the two councils, solid Bahraini-Belgian ties and support for joint parliamentary, trade, development and women projects were discussed.
Al Jishi also indicated that the Belgian Senate expressed keenness to exchange expertise with the kingdom’s National Assembly and lauded the equal opportunities principle prevailing in the Kingdom, which has advanced Bahraini women.
Later, the delegation paid a visit to the French-speaking Women’s Council in the Belgian Parliament whose members lauded the landmark achievement attained by the Supreme Council for Women for the sake of upgrading and empowering the Bahraini women in all fields.
