With the participation of over 2000 delegates and experts, the 10th Middle East Geosciences Conference and Exhibition (GEO 2012), themed “The Future of Geosciences in the Middle East”, kicked off on Sunday.
The event will run till March 7 at Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre, got underway today in Bahrain under the auspices of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
The conference was opened by Energy Minister Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza with the participation of over 2000 specialists from all over the world.
Organized by the Arabian Exhibition Management, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), Dhahran Geoscience Society (DGS), the Bahrain Geoscience Society (BGS), the Geological Society of Oman (GSO), the Emirates Society of Geoscientists (ESG) and the Qatar Geological Society, the event is supported by the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and sponsored by many Bahraini, Gulf and international companies.
HRH the Prime Minister delegated Dr. Mirza to inaugurate this year’s GEO exhibition on Monday at Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.
More than 150 companies from 27 countries are taking part to showcase the latest technologies in the oil and gas industry.
Dr. Mirza extended thanks and gratitude to HRH the Premier for his continuous patronage of this major international event since its inception in 1994.
He lauded HRH the Prime Minister’s valuable directives and continuous follow-up on the function given its positive impact on the kingdom’s oil and gas field as well as the national economy.
He also hailed the great importance accorded to GEO 2012, praising the large-scale participation in this year’s event which, he said, is a source of pride reflecting confidence of major international corporations in Bahrain as a major host of such specialized events.
Dr. Mirza outlined the history of oil and gas in the region and the world, the use of geosciences in the oil and gas sector and growing demand for oil throughout the world.
He also spotlighted the latest developments in the kingdom’s oil and gas industry and NOGA’s plans in this regard.
He highlighted Tatweer Petroleum’s contributions since its inauguration by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander, in January 2010.
