The Government of Bahrain released the latest results from an intensive and multi-agency process to advance national reconciliation through the reinstatement of public and private sector workers in Bahrain.
“I am very pleased that after exhaustive and determined efforts the government has successfully reached the end of this process,” Minister of Labor Jameel Humaidan, said.
Once again, the government has shown its commitment to advance national reconciliation by assuring the dignity of work for the Bahraini people. His Majesty the King has through his vision made it very clear that no matter what errors were made at a moment of national difficulty, it is best for all if our people remain at work. After tremendous efforts by many officials with the crucial support of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister, we have succeeded in our task. Let us hope that all of us have the vision and commitment to avoid such circumstances in the future.
Of the 2462 cases reviewed by the government, 97% were reinstated to their old jobs. Some workers, at their request, were reinstated to similar or better jobs with different companies.
Yet, 20 dismissed workers refused to return to their old jobs. The Minister urged the companies’ managements to intensify efforts to carry out agreed measures. He added that 180 employees were taken back to their old jobs in the public sector.
“The Civil Service Bureau is proud to have played a role in turning the page on the events of last year which had such a painful impact on government workers,” President of the Civil Service Bureau, Ahmed Al Zayad, said.
“We are hopeful that all Bahrainis have learned from this experience and that we will emerge stronger and more committed to the importance of a civil service that acts in the interest of all of the people and with due respect to the sacred public trust placed in all of us. This is clearly the spirit of the message and policy advanced by His Majesty the King.”
