His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa met with internationally renowned singer Julio Iglesias, currently on a visit to the kingdom to hold two musical concerts, as part of the 7th Spring of Culture Festival which started earlier this month and will run until mid-April.
HM King Hamad welcomed the Spanish singer, praising his inspiring music and successful career, selling over 300 million records. Iglesias is one of the 15 best-selling musical artists of all time.
HM the King awarded the singer the Medal of Competency in recognition of his dedication and distinguished artistic contributions. On his part, Iglesias expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to HM the King for granting him such a prestigious medal, reflecting HM’s appreciation of the arts and the crucial role they play in society.
The Latin pop singer performed to a sold-out crowd at Arad Fort last night; his second performance scheduled for this evening is also sold out.
Other events include Opera singer Andrea Bocelli; a Korean play choreographed by Eun-Me Ahn; a musical tribute to Egyptian superstar Umm Kalthoum; a performance by the Chinese folk-dance troupe, Little White Egret; an evening of musical comedy with the Polish Mozart Group; and a musical performance by Angelique Kidjo (from Benin) and Asa (from Nigeria).
The Spring of Culture Festival is held annually to enrich cultural development and boost cultural tourism. Bahrain’s Culture Minister credited the King for the success of the efforts to consolidate the cultural infrastructure, protect heritage sites and preserve national identity.
