His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al- Khalifa patronized the horse race on HM the King’s Cup, at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club. He was welcomed on arrival by was received by National Guard Commander Lieutenant-General Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al-Khalifa and senior Club officials.
Also present were ministers, senior officials, diplomats, and scores of horse-racing fans. The event comprised four races.
The First Race was held on the Charter (Mithaaq) Cup for first Class imported horses for a distance of 1600 metres and for a reward of BD2000.
The first winner was “Merawegh” owned by Abdulla Nass and jockeyed by Hussain Makki. The 2nd winner was Scrot-bell owned by Fahad Khalil, rider Gerald.
The 3rd winner was Blues and Rock owned by Jassim Mahdi, rider Abdul-Jalil Ahmed. The 4th winner was Jimmy the Butcher, owned by Fawzi Nass, rider Stephen Ladgeg. The 2nd Race was held on Bahrain Gold Cup for first Class imported horses for a distance of 2400 meters and for a reward of BD8200.
The first winner was William Blake of Al-Nassriya Stable, rider Edri Fris. The 2nd winner was Shamsheer owned by Fawzi Nass, rider Hussain Makki. The 3rd was Hodaigo of Al-Nassriya Stable, rider Andrew Pliwit.
The 4th winner was Pekis & Praise owned by Kameel Al-Mallah, rider Adrian Makarti. The 3rd Race was held on HM the King’s cup for first Class Arabian Horses, registered with Wahoo for a distance of 1200 meter, and for an award of BD5000.
The first winner was Al-Jalabiya 1310 for Jasra Stable, rider Hussain Makki. The 2nd was Al-Jalabi 1268 for Wasmiya Stable, rider Partick Dongli. The 3rd was Rabdan 1133 from Riffa Stable, rider Andrew Pliwit.
The 4th was Hamdani 1381 for Jameel Stable, rider Ahmed Akbar. The 4th Race was held on HM the King Cup for First Class horses, local Breed for a distance of 2400 meters, and for an award of BD10000.
The first winner was Blues Billy from Al-Nassriya Stable, rider Edri Fris. The 2nd was Style alliance from Al-Nassriya stable, rider Marvin Sorland.
The 3rd was Kidad owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al-Khalifa, rider Ali AlSaffar.
The 4th was Kami owned by Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdulla bin Isa Al-Khalifa, rider Gerald. Then HM the King toured the court of Rashed Club and exchanged cordial talks with trainers, riders, VIP’s and Citizens.
At the end of the race, the head of the National Guard Lieutenant-General Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al-Khalifa presented a commemorative gift from Rashed club to HM the King in recognition of HM’s support for Horse racing sport.
HM the King presented trophies to the winners and congratulated them on their success. HM presented his cup for Arabian Horses to Shaikh Khaled bin Hamad Al-Khalifa. HM also presented his up for local horse breed to HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.
HM also presented Al-Mithaq Cup to Fawzi Nass and Bahrain’s Golden Cup to HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.
HM the King expressed his thanks and appreciation to officials of Rashed Club for Equestrian and Endurance race for their efforts to promote horse racing sport. HM added that Rashed Club and since its establishment has paid great attention for such Arab sport which the kingdom is keen to preserve.
HM lauded the support of the club and wished everyone success, congratulating winners.
