Minister of Human Rights and Social Development Dr. Fatima Al-Balooshi received the International Labour Organization’s (ILO’s) International Labour Standards Directress Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry.
Dr. Al-Balooshi discussed the role of the MoHRSD within the government sector, and made a brief presentation on major projects and initiatives the Ministry has adopted in the area of human rights and social development, adding that it is the government’s priority to ensure human rights are well-protected.
The Minister elaborated on the Ministry’s pioneering steps in terms of women empowerment such as starting an ‘Equal Opportunities Unit’ in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) to ensure the presence of women side by side with male counterparts in the continuous development plans. The Minister hailed public response to the national campaign for reinforcement of national unity under the title (United we stand).
Dr. Al-Balooshi revealed that the Ministry, through a grant program, provides yearly assistance to NGOs, This year, the Minister said, almost half the grants budget has been allocated to projects relating to national unity.
Doumbia-Henry praised the government efforts – and the Ministry’s – implementation of the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission’s (BICI’s) report, and expressed her keenness on helping in human rights related topics.
