Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa will patronise the opening ceremony of the regional conference themed “Pre-historic eras, early dawn of civilizations in the Arab region”, organized by the Ministry of Culture from April 28th to May 2nd, 2012 at the Regency Hotel.
The conference, which is of the Kingdom’s celebrations of the “Manama as the Capital of Arab Culture” function, aims to raise awareness on the need to enhance research, studies and excavation of the sites of pre-historic times and dawn of the Arab civilization and encourage their inclusion in the list of World Heritage sites.
It also aims to implement the appropriate procedures to protect those sites and include some of them in the sustainable development programmes, as well as preparing a data base of pre-historic sites in the Arab region.
The conference discusses a number of themes, including the current situation of pre-historic archaeological sites in the Arab region, problems, challenges and the possibility to register them in world heritage list.
Selected Arab pre-historic sites will also be showcased and some will be recommended for the initial world heritage list.
