Manama Municipality starts to demolish the abandoned and ramshackle buildings in Manama, in implementation of the Monitoring Committee for Abandoned and Ramshackle buildings’ decisions, in coordination with the Gulf Company and with cooperation with the concerned government institutions.
The demolishing of the mentioned buildings will be executed in accordance with the rules and procedures established by the Executive Regulations of the Municipalities Act No. (35) for the year 2001, article (3/34), which authorizes the municipality to demolish the building in case it is considered a risk to people and their properties?
Director of Manama Municipality, Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said that the municipality had demolished and removed 15 buildings since the beginning of 2012, pointing out that the Committee has surveyed 70% of the area of the capital till the end of April 2012. He also said that the buildings assigned to be entirely removed reached 152, under the direction of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, Dr. Juma Bin Ahmed Al Kaabi, in coordination with the municipal council.
The Director of Manama Municipality also added that the municipality received (32) verdicts of partial and total demolition from the court, where these provisions will be implemented during the next months according to the working plan established by the committee.
He also stressed the necessity of complying with the laws of the municipality, pointing out that the municipality will take more effective actions to demolish and remove abandoned buildings that are no longer suitable for housing or rental or used for commercial purposes if there is no cooperation from their owners to rectify and care for these buildings. He highlighted that these buildings distort the beauty of the capital Manama and it would be better to use their lands to establish residential areas or commercial multi-storey facilities in accordance with the general plans and construction requirements for the region.
