Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa affirmed that the consultation meeting between their Majesties and Highnesses, leaders of the GCC, enhances the Council’s march and achieve the hopes and aspirations of the GCC people towards integration and union.
In a press statement prior to the convening of the 14th Consultative Meeting of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States he stressed that under the guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Kingdom of Bahrain is keen to realize the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of Saudi Arabia on the transformation of the GCC from the phase of cooperation to Union.
The Foreign Minister pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain acknowledges the need to strengthen the integration of the Gulf in order to facilitate the formulation of the Union through the vision it has put forward in order to develop the GCC during the 2009 summit in Kuwait.
“The desire of the people of the GCC is to achieve joint unity, as a culmination of the close brotherly bonds that constituted a source of strength the single Gulf Family, and that unity among the GCC States shall fortify the GCC against any external threats or irresponsible acts, especially in light of the significant changes the world is witnessing,” Shaikh Khalid, added.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also noted that under the provisions of Article (4) of the GCC Statute, the unity between the GCC States remains the ultimate aspired goal to be achieved through the efforts and endeavors of the leaders and their wise guidance in this regard.
