Parliament Speaker Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Dhahrani paid tribute to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdulla bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud for his call to move from the phase of GCC cooperation to the phase of full-fledged GCC Union.
“Establishing the union would be a great achievement which would build on the GCC landmark strides since its inception over three decades ago”, he said.
Al-Dhahrani was making a statement marking the 31st anniversary of the establishment of the GCC.
He hailed the landmark achievements of the six-nation bloc in the fields of politics, economy, industry, security, media, education, culture, environment, youth and sport, in addition to social and legal domains.
“The GCC has succeeded since its establishment on May 25 1981 in promoting the principle of collective active and Gulf citizenship”, he said, commending the GCC leaders for the landmark achievements.
