The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) on Thursday issued directive requiring from the banks to notify the customers through short messaging service (SMS) about each financial transaction at the ATMs or point of sales.
The CBB said the new directives were binding on all retail banks and finance companies and credit cards or financial institutions and CBB requires immediate notification put service to customers via SMS through mobile phone numbers registered with the notification of customers of all transactions on savings accounts and credit cards and current and unrestricted investment accounts of them which is made through ATM or POS.
Work has begun in this direction, starting from the end of March 2012. Accordingly, financial institutions must send an SMS to the customer when using ATM cards or credit cards, including details of usage and the amount withdrawn or the user, note that this service will be free.
“The goal of this service is to make banking transactions more secure and to protect clients’ accounts of scams and fraud.”
In this connection, the CBB calls upon the Central Bank of the citizens and residents to renew and register their phone numbers mobile banks that are dealing with in order to take advantage of this service.
