An agreement was signed on Saturday between the Culture Ministry in Bahrain and the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg in Russia, in line with the Kingdom’s keen interest to enhance cultural exchange with other countries.
Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa signed the agreement on behalf of the Kingdom, while Hermitage Museum Director-General Michael Petrovsky, on a visit to Bahrain to attend the Museums’ Month, organized on the sidelines of the “Manama as Capital of Arab Culture” function, signed it on behalf of the Russian side.
Under the agreement, the mobile Tylos Exhibition, opened earlier this month, will be showcased at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and then the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow.
Shaikha Mai stated that the agreement testifies to the solid cultural ties bonding Bahrain and Russia, lauding the Russian’s Museum’s officials’ decision to host the Tylos Exhibition.
Director-General of the State Hermitage museum praised the cultural momentum witnessed by the kingdom, asserting Manama is worthy of being chosen as capital of Arab culture for this year, given the tremendous efforts exerted to promote national culture, protect heritage sites and preserve national identity.
