The DHL Barbarians, the world’s leading logistics company’s rugby team, will once again play against the Bahrain RFC at the Bahrain Rugby Club on the 18th of May. Team members will fly in from across the GCC to take part in the game which will help raise funds for local and international charities.
“We are delighted that this year’s Annual DHL Memorial Match coincides with the Bahrain Rugby Club’s 40th anniversary celebrations. We started the DHL Barbarians rugby team in 1981, and in 2009 we decided to hold this event annually to honor the memory of our fallen brothers, something that is very special and important to us at DHL,” Phil Armatage, Captain of the DHL Barbarians, said.
“It will allow us to get family and friends together, play rugby and celebrate their lives. It also provides an opportunity to raise money for charities specifically requested by the families”
The DHL Barbarians will have team members flying in from Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE to join fellow team mates in Bahrain for the game which will take place on Friday the 18th of May at the Bahrain Rugby Club premises in Janabiyah.
Several activities have been outlined for the weekend, which will run from the 17th to the 20th of May, including a Welcome reception, a Golden Oldies game, BMMI festival with a music band, end-of-season ball at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and a farewell poolside BBQ. Former international rugby stars are also set to attend the event and help raise funds.
All proceeds from the weekend event will go to charities in Bahrain, Afghanistan and the UK, including the Abdul Rahman High School in Kabul, the Teenage Cancer Trust, the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, The Christian Cemetery in Salmabad and Bahrain’s very own Dogfather, who runs a rescue center for animals.
