Energy Minister Dr. Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza received the work team in charge of implementing the Solar Energy Project, in the presence of officials from the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and representatives from the Economic Development Board (EDB), the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) and the University of Bahrain (UoB), the project partners.
Last week, Dr. Mirza had signed $25m the agreement between National Oil and Gas Authority, the Bahrain Petroleum Company and Caspian Energy Holdings for 5MW with distributed smart solar energy project that will bring solar and smart grid benefits to the BAPCO township of Awali, the University of Bahrain and other locations in Bahrain.
Dr. Mirza expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the members of the work team and partners for the tremendous efforts they have exerted over the past months which, he said, have yielded the signing of an agreement to launch the first phase of the pilot project which will enable the kingdom to use alternative renewable energies, congratulating them for the launch of the project coinciding with the kingdom’s celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the discovery of oil in Bahrain.
He also reviewed with those present the coming phases of the project and the regions to benefit from it, wishing them every success.
The Minister said that the project in Awali represents just the first step in a series of initiatives by NOGA to diversify the sources of energy needed to ensure the sustainable development of the Kingdom, adding that following a successful implementation of this pilot project we expect that other projects will follow in the near future.
He also asserted that NOGA aims to diversify the energy supply sources that will help achieve the goals of Bahrain Vision 2030 through forming strategic alliances with technologically advantage.
