Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”, welcomed former Irish international rugby players David Corkery and Ronnie Carey for a tour of the world-class Sakhir facility.
Corkery and Carey were in the Kingdom as special guests of Bahrain Rugby Football Club, who were celebrating their 40th anniversary.
On their visit to BIC, the rugby stars were welcomed upon arrival by circuit staff, who then accompanied them on their tour around the renowned desert race track.
Among the key locations they visited were the Race Control Tower, which houses the most modern motorsport technology and from where major international events are run; the Formula One podium where the winners of the annual Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix are honoured; the BIC Media Centre which hosts hundreds of journalists and photographers during global events; and the iconic Sakhir Tower, which is the home of the BIC administration.
Corkery and Carey were also taken to the very top floor of Sakhir Tower, from where they enjoyed a scenic bird’s eye view of the entire racing facility.
They were then taken out for an enjoyable passenger ride in one of BIC’s 4X4 Land Rover LR4s, in which they tackled the circuit’s exciting off-road course, which features over 30 obstacles and which is a favourite attraction amongst visitors to BIC.
BIC hosts many similar tours for both members of the public and VIP guests throughout the calendar year. Such events cement BIC’s status as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Kingdom and a must-see for any visitor to the island.
