The Thai Premier Yingluck Shinawatra arrives in Manama on Sunday on an official visit to the Kingdom on the invitation of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
This will be first visit of Thai Premier since she took office.
A number of memoranda of understanding aiming to develop cooperation ties in the fields of education, health and tourism will be signed on the sidelines of the visit, expected to bolster the outstanding Bahraini-Thai relations further in order to meet the aspirations of the two countries’ leaderships and friendly peoples.
It will also provide an opportunity to discuss ways of broadening areas of cooperation, exchange points of view regarding regional and global issues of mutual concern and reassert the two countries’ support for peace and stability across the world.
Bahraini-Thai relations have grown steadily thanks to their wise leaderships’ constant keenness to consolidate bilateral cooperation and reinforce their relations based on mutual respects and common desire to achieve the interests of their peoples.
HRH Premier has played a pivotal role in strengthening relations with friendly Thailand through his keenness to enhance cooperation and create the most suitable conditions in order to take advantage of the available opportunities.
Bahraini-Thai relations date back to 1977 when the two countries started exchanging ambassadors, which was consolidated by the opening of the Thai Embassy in Manama on February 15, 2004 and the opening of Bahrain’s Embassy in Bangkok in 2007.
Those ties have been strengthened by the official visits of senior officials, in line with their strong desire to consolidate coordination and cooperation in all fields.
In this context, the visits of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Thailand in April, 2012, and that of HRH Premier in March of the same year enabled the two countries to discuss ways of bolstering bilateral ties in all fields and sign many cooperation agreements.
The visits of former Thai Premiers Abhisit Vejjajiva, in March, 2010, and Surayud Chulanont, from December 10 to 12, 2007, also yield many positive results.
The above reciprocal visits of the countries’ senior officials have laid the foundation for exemplary relations and enhanced cooperation between them in the political and economic levels.
