Thai Premier Yingluck Shinawatra, currently on an official visit to the Kingdom at the invitation of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa visited Salman Industrial City in Hidd to be informed on its economic projects.
The Thai official, who was accompanied by Deputy Premier Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, was welcomed by the Industry and Commerce Minister Dr. Hassan Abdulla Fakhro upon arrival.
In a statement he delivered in her presence, Dr. Fakhro highlighted the Kingdom’s industrial zones, noting that the Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP), bringing together 33 companies, has already started operating and producing diverse products, and that 37 other firms are under construction.
Regarding the Hidd Industrial Zone, the Minister shed light on the Arab Shipping and Repair Yard Company (ASRY), offering the largest industrial operations in the region, the Gulf Industrial Company (GIIC), producing high quality direct reduction grade iron oxide pullets and employing over 5000 workers and the new $1.4 billion steel plant to be established in partnership with a Japanese investor.
The Minister also welcomed Thai investments in the kingdom, in light of the facilities provided by Bahrain for investors.
The Thai Premier and the economic delegation accompanying her lauded the efforts exerted by the government and Industry and Commerce Ministry to consolidate the industrial sector in the kingdom, expressing admiration of the Hidd Industrial monument.
They also said that they are looking forward to boosting Thai investments in Bahrain.
