Bahrain permanent representative in Geneva Dr. Yusuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri attended the extraordinary session of the Human Rights Council to discuss the deteriorating situation of human rights in Syria and atrocious massacre of civilian in Al-Houla village.
Bahrain had joined other countries which called for the UN watchdog to convene for an extraordinary session, following Al-Houla atrocities in which over 100 civilians were massacred, most of them women and children.
Dr. Bucheeri voiced Bahrain’s stance condemning the daily use of excessive force against unarmed civilians, in a flagrant affront to the whole world.
“The daily atrocities in Syria-which contravene all religions and norms – represent a litmus test to human consciousness and a flagrant violation of the international humanitarian law and covenants,” he said.
He reiterated Bahrain’s support for the stances voiced by the Arab League Secretary-General, Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi, the GCC, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and UN and Arab League joint envoy Kofi Annan – who all condemned Syrian atrocities in Houla, calling for perpetrators to be held accountable.
