“We were gauging these players on their technical ability, teamwork, and overall understanding of the game. I must say they surpassed my expectations. They know the game, they come together well as a team, and I love the attitude they’re displaying out here, especially the girls,” Coach Kevin O’ Connell said.
Coach Andy Robinson shared the same enthusiasm. “The sort of communication that was happening between the teammates was exciting to observe. They were very chatty and very much into the game. If they continue to practice, nothing can stop them from playing internationally someday.”
“Wow- I just got to train with Manchester United Soccer School coaches and it’s an amazing feeling. They shared some fantastic tips and gave amazing advice. I’m definitely inspired and if I get the opportunity to go to Manchester, it will be the best experience of my life,” one of the 60 young players, who got to show the coaches his football moves today, Jean Boukacli, said.
At the end of the try-out sessions the MUSS coaches awarded the participants medals in recognition of their talent.
The 120 footballers shortlisted from the first round of auditions are being judged on three main skill criteria – passing, keeping possession and close ball control. Throughout the try-outs, coaches have been examining each player to find those with the best attitude and technical ability. At the end of each session, the two Manchester United Soccer School coaches will discuss the overall performance and decide on those who will make it in the final 18.
The chosen 18 talented and skilful youngsters will get the chance of their lifetime – to live, play and train at Myerscough Residential College camp, one of the Manchester United Soccer Schools from the 8th to the 14th of July, 2012.
