A Kingdom of Bahrain delegation presented a statement in response to a joint statement presented by the Swiss Union on behalf of some EU and Latin countries related to the human rights conditions in Bahrain on the sidelines of the 20th Human Rights meeting being held in Geneva from June 18 to July 6, 2012.
The permanent representative ambassador Dr Yousif Abdulkareem Bucheery said that the joint statement did not reflect the truth of the positive initiatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of Human Rights and its achievements in this field.
The response presented by the Kingdom of Bahrain stated the complete cooperating with the Human Rights council and special procedures and would continue to be one of the most cooperative countries with the council.
The permanent representative expressed his dissatisfaction with the approach handling Bahrain’s efforts on human rights.
He said that the countries which adopted this joint statement did not know the reality of things and were not aware of the achievements of Bahrain in the human rights field. Bucheery said that the statement lacked the efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Bahrain had undertaken and damaged the really image of respecting human rights by the country and that is clearly reflected in the case rulings. In addition to that the National Dialogue is a great step towards treat the issues triggered by the recent crisis and the formation of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry at the request of His Majesty the King along with the implementation of its recommendation. At the conclusion of the statement Bucheery highlighted the fact that Bahrain would continue to respect and preserve human rights with the framework of rationality and transparency utilizing wit that international human rights standards.
