A Bahraini parliamentarian is seeking peace, fraternity and brotherhood agreement by bringing all religious groups under one umbrella for the Holy month of Ramadan.
The Bahrain Bloc initiated a campaign by urging the signing of a document by clerics from both sects to join hands and preach a common message of peace to unite Bahrain during the Holy month of Ramadan. The Bahrain Bloc is political bloc of Independent MPs who have joined together on issues of common interest.
The signed document known as the ‘code of honour’ will be a commitment by those who sign it to use their efforts and religious position to highlight the importance of rebuilding a better Bahrain. “Those who break the code will be held accountable,” the head of the Bahrain Bloc MP Ahmed Al Saati, said.
“As we observe today, many religious leaders are misusing their platform to spread hatred and violence which is spreading instability and insecurity among the people, and they should rather influence and spread love rather than hate as their commitment of the vocation. Consequently using this document will bring together a coalition of religious leaders as the code of honour will help unite them to promote unity amongst the people of Bahrain.
“Religious pulpits should not be used to discuss sectarian issues or politics and all clerics who sign the document should speak a unified language. He stressed that there is no political agenda behind this initiative that is in response to potential extremism.”
The MP said that this initiative is a sincere patriotic effort to rebuild Bahrain once again and not a matter of favoring any side or sect.
Saati said that there would be a signing ceremony expected to take place Tuesday the 17th of July at Bait Al Quran, and that invitation will be sent to all religious heads in coordination with the Supreme Council of Islamic affairs. The document will also be sent o those who cannot make it to the venue.
