His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who on Tuesday issued orders to develop the Social Assistance system and put forward the suitable criteria.
HRH said that such steps were needed to ensure that aid reaches poor families and meets their basic needs more effectively and accurately, said that the Government every year offer BD110million.
This came as HRH Premier chaired at his court today a work meeting devoted to the examination of the efficiency of the social assistance programme and its ability to cover the needs of the targeted social groups.
During the meeting, HRH Premier asserted that the government is keen to alleviate the burden on the citizens and support them through a social welfare network that includes the various services for which the government allocates hundreds of millions of dinars in the annual state budgets to subsidize food products, housing, electricity, water and fuel, etc, adding that a total of BD 110 million-cash aid is granted to the citizens every year to help them cope with the high living costs and enable needy families and citizens with special needs to provide their daily needs.
HRH Premier instructed the Social Development Ministry to conduct field survey and use the available data base to identify low-income families, assess their needs and develop the necessary mechanisms to ensure that government services reach them.
HRH Prince Khalifa also urged the other service ministries to hold workshops in all the kingdom’s governorates in order to inform the citizens on the government’s various social services and programme.
