Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa met his French counterpart Laurent Fabius, in the presence of HM the King’s Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs Dr. Mohammed Abdul Ghaffar.
They discussed the outcome of yesterday’s visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to France and its contribution to further bolstering relations between the two friendly countries in various fields.
They spotlighted the agreement reached during HM the King’s meeting with French President Francois Hollande regarding the setting up of a coordination committee to follow up on a memorandum by Bahrain to enhance bilateral cooperation in the political, defence, educational, cultural and technological fields.
The committee will also prepare for the French President’s prospective visit to Bahrain.
Shaikh Khalid expressed thanks and respect for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to HM the King and his accompanying delegation during his recent visit to France, lauding deep-rooted historic ties binding both countries and stressing the need to further cement them.
The French Foreign Minister hailed the remarkable role played by Bahrain in the region and the importance accorded mainly to the educational and cultural field, congratulating Bahrain in success of the Pearl Road Project which reflects the kingdom’s historic and civilizational heritage.
Both sides also discussed the latest developments in Syria, expressing concern over the ongoing bloodshed there and stressing the need for concerted international efforts to end the Syrian crisis immediately and prevent the country from sliding into a sectarian civil war.
The latest regional and international developments, mainly in the Middle East, were also reviewed, including mainly the Iranian nuclear issue and the efforts exerted to achieve security and stability and ensure the region remains free of weapons of mass destruction.
