A probe has been ordered into the death of a 16-year old Bahraini allegedly involved in a terrorist attack in downtown Muharraq on Friday evening, the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) in a statement said.
According to IAA statement, officials confirmed the death of a Bahraini youth after a violent attack on police on Friday night.
The General Director of the Muharraq Governorate Police confirmed that an on-duty static police patrol assigned to secure the busy Khalifa Al Khabeer road in a crowded commercial area of Muharraq which was targeted at 9:30 PM local time resulting in the death of one of the attackers.
According to authorities, terrorists launched petrol bombs at close range, forcing the police to take the necessary actions to defend themselves and innocent bystanders from the potentially lethal attack. A police jeep and private and public property were damaged during the melee that caused panic among citizens and residents in the vicinity.
The General Director said that despite warning shots by the police the attack continued; so security personnel dealt with the case according to its legal authority. It was confirmed that a 16 year old Hussam Al-Haddad was identified as being involved in the terror act during which he sustained injuries. He died after being transported to the hospital.
The incident is the latest in a string of attacks on security personnel with the express intention of severely injuring or killing members of the police force. A spokesman for the Government noted that the Ministry of Interior (MOI) is obliged to maintain law and order among all citizens and residents in the Kingdom, and has been undergoing training and showing great restraint in doing so.
An investigation into the incident has been launched and the Public Prosecution notified.
