The Secretariat-General of the Arab League has denounced in the strongest terms Iran’s submitting of a document to the (5+1) meetings on its nuclear programme, held in Iraq on May 23, 2012 and June 6, 2012, in which it requested including the Bahrain issue among its top regional priorities.
The Secretariat-General considered the Iranian stance as “unnecessary provocative” one aiming to undermine the kingdom of Bahrain’s sovereignty and independence, warning that the move may increase tensions between Iran and the GCC states and harm Arab-Iranian relations.
It is to be noted that the permanent delegations of the GCC countries to the Arab League sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the Arab League Dr. Nabil Al Arabi and condemned the blatant Iranian move, describing it as an interference in Bahrain’s domestic affairs and a violation of its sovereignty and independence as a member state of the United Nations and the Arab League.
