Bahrain City Centre was full of smiles and laughter as families and children came out to the mall for Gergaoun – a Bahraini custom typically celebrated at the mid-point of Ramadan where children, dress in traditional wear would visit relatives to collect gifts and treats.
“Gergaoun is deeply rooted in our heritage, and we are honoured to share this tradition with the community,” Duaij Khalifa Al Rumaihi, Senior Mall Manager for Bahrain City Centre, said.
“With our Lewan Ramadan activities and our ‘Make a Difference this Ramadan’ charity campaign, Bahrain City Centre will continue to deliver a spirit of community and giving amongst our visitors.”
Started at 9:00pm, a parade of children wearing local Bahraini costume marched throughout the mall, accompanied by a drumming band and chanting traditional songs. A group of animated character mascots including the popular horse-man, Frasya also roamed the mall, entertaining guests.
The parade ended in the mall’s Central Galleria where candies and treats were given out to the delight of children. Celebrations continued until midnight, and included games with prizes, and the awarding of the ‘best dressed’ children for Gergaoun.
