His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa affirmed the important international role undertaken by the United Kingdom in the Gulf Arab region lauding the historical Bahraini-British relations and existing joint interests between the two countries.
His Majesty said in statement following his meeting with the British Prime Minister David Cameron on the occasion of his visit to London: ” Our visit to Britain is to personally extended congratulations to the British Prime Minister on the success of hosting the 2012 Olympic Games and to personally congratulate the British people on the outstanding achievements of the British athletes during the Olympic games.
His Majesty also affirmed his thanks and appreciation for Britain’s support that reflects the depth of the historic bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting His Majesty held talks with the British Prime Minister related to the importance of security and stability of the region considering it a priority to Bahrain and GCC member countries.
Both sides agreed on maintaining peace in the Middle East and both expressed their concern with the bloodshed in Syria and its repercussion on the region.
“We requested the British Prime Minister to support Bahrain with its need for technical expertise related to comprehensive strategic issues linking GCC countries with Europe, this includes the security of power and insuring the continuity of the freedom of maritime and air travel along with combating the spread of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction,” HM King in a statement said.
In addition, to that the cooperation, in combating piracy and all types of terrorism and the reinforcement of democracy and human rights along with reinforcing trade relations.
His Majesty also affirmed the importance of consultation between Bahrain and Britain in various fields via the establishment of a joint work team chaired by both Foreign Ministers to push towards achievement cooperation in all fields.
