His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa visited Scotland where he was received by Military Base deputy commander, British Ambassador to Bahrain Iain Lindsay and other base officials.
HM the King then headed to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews where he was received by board member Owen Stuart Wilson, who gave an update on the sport facility, considered as one of the most important and finest golf clubs in the world.
Established in 1754 in the lieutenancy area of Fife in Scotland, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews evolved through two and a half centuries as a leading authority in the world game.
As the Club celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2004, it devolved responsibility for the administration of the Rules of Golf, the running of The Open Championship and other key events, and the development of the game in existing and emerging golfing nations, to a newly-formed group of companies collectively known as The R&A.
HM the King was updated on different facilities and sections of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, hailing the efforts of the iconic club officials to host leading global championships and map out programmes and activities aimed at promoting golfing all over the world.
HM King Hamad stressed the importance of promoting this sport between the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and Bahrain, pointing out the Kingdom’s golfing strides and achievements in the regional, regional and international arenas.
