Chief of Public Security Major General Tariq Alhassan confirmed that an attempted terrorist attack on security forces took place earlier this morning at 5.30am in the village of Sitra, when an explosion injured two on-duty policemen during patrol. The policemen were rushed to the hospital to be treated for burns and other injuries.
Members of the investigation unit headed immediately to the scene for further investigation and secured the crime scene. Upon initial inspection, it was determined that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device containing shrapnel to cause maximum damage to anyone in close proximity.
Chief Alhassan confirmed that the investigation is underway to arrest and bring to justice the perpetrators behind the terrorist attack. Anyone with information is asked to call the police hotline at 80008008. All calls will be kept as anonymous.
